Gone are the days where you need a gym membership to get in shape. You don’t even need to go to the gym for the use of large equipment and machines.

Modern engineering, bigger homes, and plenty of disposal income have made the market for at-home personal fitness equipment and machines possible.

Here are a few examples:

Cardio Trainers

There is no shortage of workout equipment aimed at those looking to lose weight. And, a big part of that is cardio-based exercise like jogging or running.

Treadmills, elliptical trainers, and other similar machines are something you would once only find in a gym due to their size and expense. But now, they are in homes all over America.

Some newer designs that include wireless technology and touch screens are even marketed more toward home users than gym users. They claim to mimic going to group classes in the comfort of your own home.

For those not looking to lose weight but instead put on muscle, there are workout devices and machines aimed at them as well. Those include cable machines, smith machines, and power towers for doing pull-ups and ab work.

Due to the size and engineering demands (they need to be able to handle a lot of weight), in the past you would only see these large pieces of equipment in a gym, usually in the same area as the free weights. But now, as with cardio equipment, there are plenty of these in people’s homes and there are some brands and designs marketing specifically to home users.

Yes, you read that right. While you would normally think that you would need to find a gym or maybe a school to find a pool for a nice workout, times are changing. If you have a little extra room in your house or your yard, and a lot of extra money, you can get a nice swimming workout without leaving your home.

Technology has come up with the idea of an endless pool. These special pools are built with the same idea of a treadmill, only in water. Special jets and other engineering wonders allow the user to continuously swim but not really move.

You get a full swimming workout with out the need for an Olympic size pool. They really are a testament to modern engineering.

If you have the resources, you no longer need to go to a gym to get a full workout. With cardio equipment, body building equipment, and even small pools engineered for your home instead of large open gyms, you can get everything you need.

That isn’t to say they are right for everyone. You still need to proper free room in your home and plenty of extra money to take advantage of these cool workout options. If you don’t have both, don’t worry. There are still plenty of gyms with great equipment of their own waiting for you to stop in and open up a new membership.

If you must join a gym, you get the added bonus of potentially meeting some new friends too.
